What we fund – our projects

We work in places where children need help. With the aid of innovative approaches, we try to enable children to reach their full potential.

Children need help escaping the vicious circle of poor health and education, child abuse, and long-term poverty. To provide this help, we focus on the most suitable and effective approaches.

So we can determine what works, each project we support faces strict tests.

Project in Liberia: Saving lives with solar light

Most outpatient departments in Liberia's rural regions have no electricity. Babies are born by the light of kerosene lamps, car headlights, candlelight, or in the dark. As such, the mortality rate of mothers and newborns is high. To help bring this rate down, solar suitcases have been developed. The suitcases have very low power consumption, enabling them to provide light and electricity for a long time.

Project: Seeing, understanding, acting

Over a million people have fled to Germany since 2015, including many children and thousands of them without parents. The children require special care and attention, as many are scarred and traumatized by their experiences of war and flight. To cope with these experiences, they need help and support, which cannot be accessed through health insurance and child welfare systems. To provide therapeutic support and help integrating, throughout Germany, qualified educational and psychological specialists are trained in trauma and culturally sensitive action.

Project: Helping in extreme living conditions

Photo from Médecins Sans Frontières

The largest ever refugee crisis has emerged in Europe. Almost a million people needing help have fled to Germany, including thousands of children who have been forced to flee through no fault of their own.

These children are exposed to extreme living conditions. Being separated from their parents makes their situation even more difficult and puts them at great risk of abuse. With our partners, Save the Children and Médecins Sans Frontières, we provide accommodation, food, basic medical care, and support for unaccompanied refugees.
